Mayfair Special

Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May 2024
Mayfair Special

This event recreates a local special which ran in 1978, commissioned by the Mayor at the time Dr Harry Cramp, to bring people into Great Torrington from the outlying villages to enjoy the festivities of Mayfair.

Great Torrington Mayfair is an important local tradition which was first recorded in 1542 but the roots of which are likely to date back to a much earlier time. It still remains an important part of the Town's unique heritage and culture and has helped to shape the strong sense of community spirit that can be found within Great Torrington to this day.

The event will be officially opened by the Mayor Cllr Doug Smith at 10am on Saturday 4th May, with the May Queen and her Entourage as our special guests.

Train rides will be available throughout the weekend with fair themed stalls, a bouncy castle and other fun activities also on offer.

A FREE bus service will be provided on Saturday 4th May (courtesy of Great Torrington Town Council) from Sydney House Car Park and the Old Bowling Green to Torrington Station in order to connect this event with the Mayfair and Carnival Commitee's Fancy Dress Festival in Great Torrington Town Square.
