How To Find Us

Situated in the Torridge Valley in the heart of Tarka Country, the Tarka Valley Railway is nestled at the foot of the imposing inland cliff on which the ancient market town of Great Torrington stands. Torrington Station is located approximately ½ a mile from the town centre alongside the A386 towards Bideford.

The station building itself is now in use as the Puffing Billy Café with our Shop and Information Centre being located alongside the platform, adjacent to the garden. The Tarka Trail walking and cycling route runs through the site parallel to the railway line allowing an uninterrupted view of our rolling stock.

By Car

The railway is situated along the A386 outside of Great Torrington on the way to Bideford at the bottom of Station Hill alongside the old station building which is now the Puffing Billy Café, an independently owned licensed café. Free car parking is available around the station site

By Bus

Busses stop directly outside the station at the ‘Old Railway Station’ bus stop. Busses 315 and 75 from Barnstaple via Bideford on a 30 minute frequency stop here.

By Train

The nearest rail station on the National Network is Umberleigh on the Tarka Line (Exeter to Barnstaple line), however, if you require ongoing public transport connections from the station you will need to stay on the train to Barnstaple where there is a regular bus service to Great Torrington.
